Thank you, even for Windows 10 Pro 1809 this hint worked, although Microsoft mentioned after update to 1809 the ciscovpnclient-programm has been deleted due to incompatibility. After repair the app and correcting the registry-key, the connection succeeded!
Amazing so easy, now why in the world does windows make it so difficult!, Download winfix, download dne reset, then this, all to install something that always worked perfectly well in win 7!! Thanks a million!
Gareth, this is a great tip! Thanks. I upgraded to Windows 10 last night and the Cisco VPN client would not even start. So I uninstalled it, rebooted, downloaded and reinstalled it. My registry did NOT contain the value name of DisplayName, so I simply created a String Value key called DisplayName, and then out in the value data of Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows. Closed out of the VPN client and opened it back up, and it worked! Thank you very much sir!
Great article. My issue was with Any connect VPN client on windows 8.1. Client would throw an error after i have supplied username and password and on checking the windows event viewer log i see warning with a message saying Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client must be reinstalled after you upgrade windows. I found that for AnyConnect client registry is located at \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpnva. at said location i removed extra characters from the DisplayName key as mentioned above in the article and worked like a charm!! Just FYI client exe was for windows7/vista.
Hi I had made all the require changes as given by you, I checked regedit that is also correct ,Can you give any other solution. I am used windows 8 Enterprise 32 -bit version. And VPN Client version is vpnclient-win-msi-5.0.06.0160-k9Please do needfull
Shrew soft VPN client worked for me. I have Win 8.1, and none of the other suggestions worked for me (disable signed drivers, changing registry display value, deterministic network fix) I just imported my cisco .pcs file
My employer provides AnyConnect for VPN access, so I download and install the latest Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility client on Windows 8 Pro computer. However, there are a lot of error issues coming up.
1) Ctrl+alt+delete2) On logon screen with other user, click the left arrow to go back to a lower user choice level (hard to explain. Still says Other user on the screen but now it has the logon vpn button shown)3) Click on the VPN icon and then choose the anyconnect icon in the middle of the screen4) VPN logon box will pop up, log into the VPN as normal. It will drop you back to the previous user choice (Other user) screen, but now have a disconnect icon next to the VPN icon.5) Click on the Other user account again, and log in with your windows credentials.
I imagine it could be scripted, all we are talking about is an .XML file with the MSI for the installer. The only real issue would be the ability of the user to install the additional SBL code. It IS an additional program entry but I am not sure how you separate it out from the original .pkg file from Cisco. On second thought, check the download area for the the anyconnect client, I think there was an SBL MSI there. If its an MSI you could PROBABLY use GPO to do it, I hadn't gotten that far yet.
Please click on and follow the appropriate instructions link below. You will need to login to UCSB BOX using your UCSBNetID and password in order to download the client software. Please contact us at ets-info@ucsb.edu if access to BOX is blocked from your location, and we can provide an alternate link for download.
Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-156 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists due to insufficient signature checks with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client. When the client is invoked through the ActiveX control it downloads and checks a file called vpndownloader.exe. This file has to be properly signed by Cisco. Once this file is downloaded it is run and downloads additional configuration files. Within the downloaded config file it is possible to force a download of executable files. Those files are not properly checked for valid certificates and are run on the host as soon as they are downloaded. 2b1af7f3a8
