In early August 2001, Microsoft made the decision to delay the release of XP RTM because they had run into problems with their automated build system. As a result, the release of the final RTM build, build 2600, was delayed until August 24, 2001. The build was released to manufacturing (RTM) on August 24, 2001. The build contained several software and hardware improvements, the most significant of which were support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the addition of an automatic web proxy feature, and a bug fix for the CD/DVD burning program, PowerISO.[86] On October 25, 2001, Windows XP RTM (build 2600) was finally released to retailers and retail outlets, and was released to manufacturing (RTM) on the same day.[92]
Once Microsoft had completed the many changes to the software required to bring XP to RTM, they began the process of making the machine available to the public. Before release, Microsoft had beta versions of the software available to the public to allow users to try out the new features. Unlike the earlier betas, these versions were intended to be used for testing purposes only, and were not intended for general use by the public. The first beta was made available on March 23, 2001, and the final public beta was released on April 18, 2001. The final beta's features were scheduled for inclusion in the release version, which was also available for beta testing.
The final service packs for Windows XP were released on October 16, 2010. SP2[89] was released on April 14, 2011, and SP3[90] was released on June 18, 2011. SP4[91] was released on June 16, 2012. SP5[92] was released on August 9, 2012, and SP6[93] was released on March 14, 2013. SP7[94] was released on June 11, 2013, and SP8[95] was released on August 19, 2013.
On June 6, 2015, new features for the Windows Server 2012 kernel were made available on the Windows Server Insider Preview builds page. These included Internet Explorer 11, the Windows Defender antivirus service, and the Windows Error Reporting service. One month later, on July 6, 2015, the same features were made available on the Windows 8.1 developer previews.[99][100]
On November 17, 2017, Microsoft released Windows 10 version 1809, which replaced Windows 10 version 1709.[104] This version was released on the same day of its announcement, but only for Insider builds.
Here's where the Bus Pirate fits in. The package includes a numbered keychain. The number corresponds to the bus pirate's serial port (pins 0-3). Using the provided bus pirate serial cable (2-wire, open source), connect the cable to the serial port of the Arduino IDE. The bus pirate is open source, so you don't have to pay for the cable. Use pin 0 on the bus pirate to connect to the data pin (pin 2) on the Arduino. Use pin 1 on the bus pirate to connect to the clock pin (pin 1) on the Arduino. The bus pirate's built-in LED indicates the state of the serial port: 827ec27edc
